The removal of the “Roaming Tariffs”

The removal of the “Roaming Tariffs”

THE ROAMING TARIFFS BETWEEN EUROPEAN COUNRTIES WILL BE CANCELLED STARTING FROM THE 15TH OF JUNE, CALLING WITHIN EUROPE WIL BECOME CHEAPER.

The additive cost that had to be paid when calling, texting or surfing form another European country, the so called “Roaming Tariffs” will be cancelled starting from June 15 2017. This means that EU-members who take a trip to another EU-member state will be able to pay the same tariff as they already pay in their homeland.

The United Kingdom will be able to enjoy this change. The EU has also mutual agreements with Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Unfortunately Turkey won’t be able to take part in this change, such as Switzerland.

The Belgian provider Orange already annulled the roaming tariffs. Proximus will be doing this toworrow. Telenet and Base have planned to do this on the 15th of June. The Scarlet and Mobile Vikings customers already didn’t had to pay these costs.

The cancelling of the roaming tariffs is combined with an odd situation. For example, if an EU-member from Belgium decides to call a family member in Germany, will be calling with the international tariff, which is higher than the normal tariff. This basically means that international tariffs stay the same for people who call from their homeland. If the same Belgian EU-member who is currently located in The Netherlands calls his family in Germany, he will be able to call according to the tariffs in Belgium.

To avoid misuse of this new improvement, providers will be observing their customers for the following 4 months. If customers call to much while they are roaming, they will receive a warning. Customers will have to pay extra costs if they do not adhere this warning.
